About the Department

The St Petersburg Police Department is responsible for the safety of over 263,000 citizens. The department covers 60 square miles and is surrounded by 244 miles of shoreline. The department has an authorized sworn strength of 602 and employs approximately 307 civilians. The annual budget is $118 million. In April 2019, the police department moved into a new 160,000 sq. ft. police headquarters.

With an average of 361 days of sunshine each year and a Guinness World Record for logging the most consecutive days of sunshine (768 days between 1967 and 1969), we are nicknamed "The Sunshine City". We are home to the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
