The Field Training Unit is overseen by the major of Uniform Support along with a staff of one lieutenant, nine sergeants and several field training officers. Officers selected to become field training officers are among the elite of our agency who are carefully selected to do the on-the-job training and evaluation of new officers.
Once new officers have completed the police academy and the in-house post academy training, they enter the Field Training and Evaluation Program. The program involves 14 to 20 weeks of intense, structured training and evaluation to ensure the officer is prepared to work a solo assignment.
