The St. Petersburg Police Reserve Unit has been in existence for over 70 years. Reserve Officers are utilized to supplement the St. Petersburg Police Department with manpower.
Like the full-time Officers, Reserve Officers are professionally trained and duly sworn law enforcement personnel. Uniform Reserves volunteer in many capacities of law enforcement including crime prevention, investigation, responding to calls, traffic control, and enforcement of laws.
Since Reserve Officers have the same powers of arrest as full-time officers they are required by law to meet the same hiring, background, medical and psychological standards as full-time officers.
Today the reserve unit has 19 active members and 11 life-time members.
