Bike Compound: Monday 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM, Tuesday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM for obtaining a bicycle license

Responsibility

  • Responds to public records requests in accordance with Florida State Statute 119.07

    • Most requests involve obtaining copies of accident and offense reports. Accident reports can generally not be provided to anyone other than the persons involved, their insurance companies or their attorneys until 60 days after the accident. Most accident reports are not available for 10-14 days after they are turned in due to the many quality control and data entry requirements involved in their processing.

  • Operates the Department’s Court Liaison Unit

    • Interfaces with the County’s Criminal Judicial System. They annually schedule over 5,000 State Attorney’s investigations held at the department.

  • Operates one of the two FCIC/NCIC terminals in the department.

    • Conducts official criminal history inquiries for law enforcement purposes, enters/deletes stolen items in FCIC/NCIC system and conducts vehicle inquiries for towing companies within the city.

  • Property and Evidence

    • Processes and stores over 22,000 new items and disposes of over 17,000 items each year. Surplus items are auctioned by Property Room at www.propertyroom.com

  • Bike Compound

    • Register your bicycle

  • Operates over-the-counter services
    • Completes fingerprint cards for licensing and other purposes (with the card provided by the customer)
    • Provides local (Pinellas County) criminal history background letters
    • Processes all of the annually renewable Solicitor and Fortune Teller permits
    • Processes over-the-counter copies of reports

Fee Schedule

Copies of 911 calls and other recorded lines: $6.00 (Extensive requests will be charged additional labor fees at a current rate of $26.00 per hour)
Fingerprint Cards: $10.00 per card (which must be furnished by the user) and photo ID is required
Local criminal history background letters: $5.00 per letter (Telephone inquiries and responses are free. )
Reports: $.15 per single sided page and $.20 per double sided page
Solicitor and Fortune Teller Permits: $44.00
Photograph requests on CD/DVD: $3.00 per CD plus postage paid envelope
DUI Video requests on CD/DVD: $3.00 per video plus postage paid envelope
Public Records Requests: An additional charge may be applied to a public records request that requires extensive clerical assistance. If a request is voluminous in nature, an estimate of the charges for the production will be provided. The applied hourly rate fee will depend of the specific nature of the public records request with an average rate of $26.00 per hour.

Most accident reports are not available for 10-14 days after they are turned in due to the many quality control and data entry requirements involved in their processing. Crash reports may be retrieved on-line in compliance with F.S.S. 316.066 by going to Crash Reports.

Information is releasable in accordance with Florida State Statutes. Police reports involving criminal activity with suspect information may be subject to being redacted, depending on whether or not the case has been closed and/or until such time as the status of any other judicial actions have been ascertained. Records personnel will provide individual report release information specific to each public records request. We receive and respond to over 10,000 mail in requests each year. An expedited return of your mail in request can be facilitated by enclosing a self-addressed, stamped envelope and $1.00 per report. Contact 727-893-7537 for assistance.
