Effective January 1, 2021, all newly hired officers will be required to pass an annual physical fitness test. Officers will be required to complete the Cooper Standards of Fitness at the 10% threshold based on their age/sex. Officers will have the option to substitute the 300-meter run or the 1.5 mile run with a 2000-meter row. The row must be completed at a 25% threshold. Officers will be required to satisfactorily complete 3 of the 6 tests.
Officers unable to meet the standards on their first (1st) attempt will have 2 additional opportunities within a 60-day time period. Officers that are unable to meet the standards on their 3rd attempt will work with a personal trainer and dietician while being placed on a light-duty status. Officers will have 2 more opportunities after working with the personal trainer and dietician. Officers who fail the assessment after the 5th opportunity will be terminated.
Fitness Incentive Program:
Officers will have the opportunity to earn personal leave time (up to 24 hours) based on their performance during the annual fitness test along with participation in the annual Law Enforcement Run or by attending two (2) department-approved online wellness seminars.
Participation in the Fitness Incentive Program is entirely voluntarily; however, the annual fitness test is required.
