Active Shooter

Active shooter incidents are often unpredictable and evolve quickly. In the midst of the chaos, anyone can play an integral role in mitigating the impacts of an active shooter incident. The St. Petersburg Police Department Crime Prevention Unit leads you through a careful process of planning and prevention to help you identify your risk and liabilities, and take steps to minimize them.

Auto Theft Prevention

This program is designed to help motorists minimize their chances of becoming victims of auto theft or carjacking. Information on anti-theft devices is also provided.

Burglary Prevention

The Burglary Prevention presentation will educate citizens on how to secure their property and report suspicious activity around their homes. “Hardening the target” is the process of taking proactive steps toward protecting one’s property from criminal predators who search for vulnerable or “weak” targets

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)

CPTED is the acronym for Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. CPTED is defined as "the proper design and effective use of the built environment that can lead to a reduction in the fear and incidence of crime and an improvement in the quality of life." CPTED addresses crime problems through controlling the environment.

Frauds and Scams

The St. Petersburg Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit realizes that Frauds, Scams and Cons can occur in a variety of ways. All age groups are affected by this crime. Your best defense is spotting a worthless scheme is to ask yourself. “Does it sounds too good to be true?” if the answer is “yes”, then it probably is. Our representatives are available to address your group with the most current crimes relating to frauds and scams and will teach you how to keep from becoming a victim.

Identity Theft

This presentation details best practices as outlined by the Federal Trade Commission regarding how to deter, detect, and defend against identity theft.

Personal Safety

The goal of crime prevention is to reduce the risk of becoming a victim. In order to accomplish this effectively, it is important to remove opportunities for a criminal to take advantage of. Personal Safety is using instinct, common sense, and taking action to eliminate or greatly reduce the criminal’s opportunity. Our trained officers will safely walk you through our personal safety program to reducing your chance of becoming a target
