6th Annual Multi-Jurisdictional Law Enforcement Explorer Academy - May 30 through June 8

The St. Petersburg Police Department, along with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Pinellas Park Police Department, Gulfport Police Department, and St. Petersburg College are hosting the 2018 Law Enforcement Explorer Academy, an exciting and educational two-week experience for the youth in Pinellas County.  The academy offers youth insight into how law enforcement performs their duties and how law enforcement serves the community

The completed application must be post marked by May 1, 2018.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled and attending high school in Fall 2018
  • Must be between ages of 14-18 years old
  • Pass a background check
  • Complete the application and deliver or mail in by deadline (Received or Post marked by May 1, 2018)
  • Must be in good physical and mental health. Be able to successfully perform the physical exercises
  • Pack a lunch and drinks each day except graduation day
  • Cost is $50 (non-refundable) which covers Graduation Day and supplies throughout the academy
  • Long pants/jeans, “plain” any color  T-shirt, closed toed shoes (Gym clothes will be required on certain days)

Time:     8:30am - 4:30pm
Graduation: June 8th, 3:00pm-4:30pm
Location: St. Petersburg College – Allstate Center 3200 34th Street South, St. Petersburg
*Shuttles can be provided from different areas in Pinellas County.
*T-shirt will be provided on Graduation Day.
*Only 35 seats available
*An officer will be in contact to confirm applicant’s position

Exploring gives you the chance to work directly with police officers, go on ride-alongs, receive police training, meet new friends, and feel good about helping out in your community.  The program is part of the Boy Scouts of  America - Learning for Life and sponsored by the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Requirements

Young adults, male and female, are encouraged to join. You must meet these criteria:

  • Must be in school and completed the eighth grade and must be at least 14 years-of-age, but not older than 19 years-of-age.
  • While being enrolled in a high school, you must maintain a 2.0 GPA. (Must have a 2.5 GPA to participate in ride-alongs and firearms).
  • Pass a thorough background check
  • Explorer uniforms and other privileges are earned after being a member in good standing for a minimum of four months.

The process:

Join us at one of our Monday night meetings 6:00 pm-8:30 pm.  We will give you an informational packet on your first night.  Contact Officer Janie Staples for a location. 

An applicant must attend four consecutive Monday night meetings. At the fourth meeting, the applicant will receive an oral interview board and their peers, along with the Explorer Post Advisor will decide acceptance.
