Update 2 - Arrest Made in Fatal Car Crash


Thanks to tips from the public, Keshawn Long (DOB 11/23/00) was arrested on five charges for the January 18th hit-and-run crash (near 9th Ave. S and 40th St. S) that killed Saniya Daxon,  and injured another.

Today Long faces Vehicular Homicide, Leaving Scene of a Crash Involving Injury, Leaving Scene of a Crash Involving Death, Operating Without a Driver's License Causing Death and Auto Theft charges.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing and additional charges may be filed at a later time.  Long was already in jail on auto theft charges un-related to this crash.

The victim in this crash has been identified as Saniya Daxon (DOB 08/12/1992).

On January 18th around 10:14am a 2018 silver sedan was going northbound on 40th Street South.  The driver of a stolen Mercedes was travelling westbound on 9th Ave South, ran a stop sign and crashed into the silver sedan.

The driver of the Mercedes fled the scene on foot and is still at-large.  Both the passenger and driver of the silver sedan were transported to the hospital, but Daxon later died from her injuries.  The driver is currently in stable condition.

Update: Car Crash with Fatality

Regarding the fatal hit and run crash from Saturday, the driver of the Malibu is a woman. She is in serious but stable condition. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

We have no further updates to release. The case is still under investigation.

At 10:14 a.m. police responded to a hit and run crash between a stolen Mercedes and a Malibu at 9th Avenue South and 40th Street South.

The driver of the stolen car fled the scene and is still at large.

The Malibu driver, a man, was seriously injured and his passenger, a 27 year old woman, died later at the hospital.

The 9th Avenue and 40th Street South intersection will remain closed for several hours for the investigation.
