A wheelchair-bound man died from his injuries in a crash earlier this month.
On September 15th, 2018, at 8 pm., a wheelchair-bound pedestrian, Ronald Alan Ballew (DOB 06/16/1954), was crossing 34th Street North, from east to west, in the 1200 block. Ballew traveled across the northbound lanes and entered the southbound lanes, into the path of an approaching 2005 Kia, driven by Sheila Jones Cunningham (09/30/1983).
The front of the Kia struck the right side of Ballew, throwing him to the roadway. Ballew was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries, which were later downgraded to serious injuries. However, his health declined over the following week and on September 27th, he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in this crash, but the investigation is ongoing due to Ballew's recent death.
