At 1:37 a.m., a pick-up truck traveling eastbound on 5th Ave N, approaching Lafayette St N, crossed over into oncoming traffic and struck a van traveling westbound head-on.

The driver of the pick-up, 72-year-old Charles Peter Caravana, died at the scene. His next of kin has been notified.

The driver of the van, a 67-year-old woman, was taken to Orlando Bayfront Hospital and is in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
