On April 18, at 12:20 a.m., officers responded to shots being fired in the area. They found a 46-year-old man had been shot. He later died from his injuries at the hospital.
Here are the preliminary investigation findings:
A 46-year-old man crashed a car in the area, ran from the vehicle, and entered the backyard of a nearby home at 3050 2nd Avenue North. The reason for the crash is unknown.
The suspect tried to break into the home through the rear. The homeowner was awakened by the man's repeated attempts to enter. The homeowner ordered the suspect to leave, but the suspect persisted.
The homeowner eventually fired at the suspect, striking him. He later died at the hospital. The suspect's identity is not being released pending next of kin notification.
No one else was hurt. There were three adults and a child in the home at the time.
At this time, the homeowner has not been charged. This is an ongoing investigation.
