St. Petersburg Police investigators located the suspected car and arrested Darrell Elwin Briggs.

He is charged with leaving the scene of a crash, causing death.

Shortly before 5p.m., a pedestrian (an elderly woman) was struck by a car in the Publix parking lot, 200 37th Ave. N.

She was transported to the hospital where she died of her injuries.

The driver of the car left the scene.

Anyone with information on the driver is asked to call St. Petersburg Police at 727-893-7780.

Police are actively investigating.
