Update: Fatal Crash at Fairfield Avenue South and 34th Street South

Release update on 02-06-25 at 10:48 PM

On February 6 at 3:25 PM, a black Volkswagen SUV, driven by Viola McDuffie (St. Petersburg), was driving eastbound on Fairfield Avenue South approaching 34th Street South. Two young children were passengers in her vehicle.

A white Saturn Vue, was also eastbound on Fairfield Avenue South, attempting to make a northbound turn onto 34th Street South.

For an unknown reason, McDuffie's vehicle began to accelerate at a high rate of speed and crashed into the Saturn , rolled and crashed the rear bumper into a power pole on the east side of 34th Street South.

McDuffie died on the scene.

The children in the Volkswagen were transported to John Hopkins All Children's Hospital with serious injuries.

The other driver was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital with injuries but is stable. Four children in the Saturn were transported to John Hopkins All Children's Hospital and were in stable condition.

This is still an ongoing investigation.


Fatal Crash

Today at 3:25 p.m., police responded to a fatal crash involving two SUVs on 34th Street South and Fairfield Avenue South.

One adult died at the scene. One adult and six children were transported to the hospital.

All lanes of 34th Street South are closed down in both directions between 6th Avenue South and 7th Avenue South for the investigation.

More details will be shared when they become available.
