On December 27th, 2025 at 9:30 p.m., a silver Mitsubishi Outlander was traveling northbound on Dr Martin Luther King Jr Street North, crossing N Frontage Road, with a steady green traffic signal. A blue Dodge Charger operated by Izell Shelby (male, 31 YOA, St. Petersburg, FL), was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed on N Frontage Road and failed to stop at the red light at Dr Martin Luther King Jr Street N. and struck the Mitsubishi in the intersection.

Shelby was pronounced dead at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital St. Petersburg.

The other driver and her 3 passengers were also transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital St. Petersburg, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Speed and lack of proper safety belt use appear to be factors in this crash. Shelby was later found to have an active warrant and a suspended Florida driver's license.

The investigation is ongoing.
