On Thursday, Sept. 19, at 2:02 p.m., a 2006 maroon Toyota Avalon sedan traveling westbound in the 1100 block of 54th Avenue North at a high rate of speed and recklessly through traffic collided with 2005 maroon Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck at the intersection of 54th Avenue North and 12th Street North.

Just before the crash, the 18-year-old driver of the Chevy pickup truck, who was traveling southbound on 12th Street North, had made a stop at the intersection of 54th Ave. N. and 12th St. N. He was attempting to cross 54th Avenue North when the crash occurred.

On impact, the Chevy pickup rolled onto its roof, trapping the driver. The unidentified driver of the Toyota sedan climbed out of his vehicle and ran away from the scene. Investigators said the Toyota driver was picked by another vehicle a few blocks away.

The 18-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital, where he was last listed in critical but stable condition.
