Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force Investigates Deputy Involved Shooting

Release updated on 11-19-24 at 11:30 AM

Today, Chief Anthony Holloway released the Task Force findings on a shooting that involved three Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies on November 8th, 2024.

Based on the comprehensive investigation, including witness statements, physical evidence, and the imminent threat posed by Reed towards his family members and the three deputies, it has been determined that the deputies' actions were justified and in accordance with Florida State Statute 776.012.

Summary:
On November 8th, at approximately 10:30 p.m., PCSO deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the 2500 block of 47th Avenue North. The suspect, Jeremy Reed, DOB 5-17-82, had a verbal altercation with his wife, and teenaged stepson and stepdaughter.

After interviews with the wife and teens outside the home, deputies learned Reed had threatened the stepdaughter with a gun. They established probable cause for Jeremy Reed's arrest for aggravated assault.

The situation escalated when Reed exited the residence with the gun in his hand and ran toward the area where the family was speaking to deputies. When he ignored commands to drop the gun, the three deputies, Jesse Creaser, Dylan Schultz, and Stuart Kellman, discharged their firearms.

Here is a link to a video clip of Deputy Creaser's body camera.

Reed was struck multiple times, taken into custody, and transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital. He is currently in the Pinellas County Jail after receiving medical treatment.

The deputies involved are:

  1. Deputy Jesse Creaser, sworn 9-27-21
  2. Deputy Dylan Schultz, sworn 7-10-23
  3. Corporal Stuart Kellman, sworn 4-7-14

Background on the task force:
In 2020, the Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Taskforce was created to ensure the investigations conducted into law enforcement use of deadly force are thorough, complete, and objective. The purpose of this task force is to make sure that officer-involved shootings in Pinellas County are investigated by an independent agency and not by the agency involved in the use of deadly force.
