Delayed Pedestrian-Involved Traffic Death

A bicyclist who was injured when she stepped into the path of a vehicle at 54th Avenue South and 31st Street South Tuesday has died.

Shortly after 9 p.m. that day, May 28, Haylee Concepcion (DOB 08/03/1998) of St. Petersburg was attempting to cross 54th Avenue South in a marked crosswalk when a black Jeep was making a left turn from 31st Street South to travel east on 54th Avenue South.

Concepcion crossed in front of the Jeep and was struck. The Jeep was turning under a steady green left turn arrow at the time.

She was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital with life threatening injuries. She died of her injuries at the hospital Wednesday.

The Jeep driver, Richard Wilson, (DOB 12/07/1957) remained on scene. During the crash investigation, officers determined Wilson showed signs of impairment and subsequently was arrested for driving under the influence.

The investigation is ongoing.
