An estimated 100,000 to 150,000 fans are expected to visit downtown for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg this weekend.
With the support of federal and state law enforcement partners, proper security measures are in place to ensure the safety of the race car drivers, their crews, and fans, Chief of Police Anthony Holloway said at the annual Grand Prix Security Press Conference today.
"We will have a full staff of officers in uniform and undercover working the entire event," the Chief said.
Officers will be monitoring the venue by land, water and air.
Several agencies, including St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, FBI, Florida Highway Patrol, United States Coast Guard, and Tampa Bomb Squad, will assist with security.
Refillable water containers, cameras, service animals, and personal bags no larger in a backpack will be permitted in the stands/seating area, according to Steve Bidlack, Grand Prix Sr. Manager of Marketing and Communications. Weapons and coolers will not be permitted.
