Wrongway Driver

In regards to a wrong-way driver arrest today, June 10, St. Petersburg police took into custody Shawn Michael Schmidhuber, 49, (DOB 07/13/1974) of St. Petersburg on charges of two counts of fleeing and eluding a police officer and one count of driving under the influence.

At 11:49 a.m., a Police Officer spotted a Honda Accord at MLK St. and 1st Avenue South going the wrong way on 1st Avenue South.

An attempt to stop him was unsuccessful.

Sgt. Michael Schade then got behind him and tried to pull him over with lights and sirens, but the driver continued.

With three lanes of oncoming traffic, Sgt. Schade made the decision to hit the Honda and forced it off the roadway in the 2400 block of 1st Avenue South.

Thanks to Sgt. Schades quick action, no one was injured.
