Release posted on 01-30-24 at 3:21 p.m.

A 13-year-old 7th-grader at Bay Point Middle School was arrested and charged with Possession of a Weapon on School Property and Resisting without Violence. He will also face school consequences.

At 8:09 a.m. this morning, January 30th, school resource officers at Bay Point Middle School, 2151 62nd Ave. S., were notified about a potential weapon on campus.

Officers discovered the student had an airsoft plastic gun with real ammunition rounds. The student did not make any threats.

St. Petersburg police make the safety of students a top priority and any weapon on campus, or other threat to school safety, will be thoroughly investigated. This serves as a reminder to students that the police department takes these matters very seriously and the consequences could be severe.
