Shortly after 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, a grey Honda CBR600RR motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed collided with a blue Hyundai Sonata at the intersection of 34th Street North and 34th Avenue North.
The driver of the Hyundai, who was traveling west on 34th Ave. N., had crossed over five lanes of traffic on 34th Street N. when the southbound motorcycle struck the right rear side of the car.
The motorcycle operator, a 25-year-old man from St. Petersburg, died at the scene. The 34-year-old Hyundai driver, also of St. Petersburg, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The intersection of 34th Street North and 34th Avenue North was reopened to traffic at 1:32 a.m. today.
