On April 10th, 2023, Michael Wood (DOB 4-15-97) had an altercation with his mother's fianc, Kenneth McMurray (DOB 2/5/86), outside the home they both resided in at 2338 15th Avenue South.

Wood punched McMurray, knocked him to the ground, and continued striking him, causing severe brain trauma. Wood was arrested and charged with aggravated battery at that time.

McMurray was hospitalized, but never recovered and eventually died from his injuries on July 2, 2023. The charge against Wood was amended to 2nd-degree murder.
