Fatal Crash

On Thursday, December 1st, 2022, Ricky Bishop (B/M 09/23/1961), the father of a 17- year- old boy who was arrested in a recent fatal hit and run crash, was charged with allowing an unlicensed person to drive his vehicle involving death. This is a misdemeanor charge and Bishop received a Notice to Appear.

Ricky Bishop is the owner of the black Chevrolet Camaro that was being driven by his son, 17- year -old Deonte Bishop, during the crash. Please see previous release below for a summary of the crash.

This is the second time this month that a parent has been charged with allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a vehicle that was involved in a fatal crash.

On Saturday,November 26, 2022 , 10:09 p.m. a black 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by Deonte Bishop (07/15/2005, St Petersburg, FL), was traveling northbound on DR MLK Street South. A silver 2008 Dodge Charger, driven by Denry Gayle (11/03/1935, St Petersburg, FL), was traveling west from the stop sign at 30th Avenue South. As Gayle made his southbound turn at the intersection, Bishop collided with him, striking the driver's side of the Dodge.

Bishop fled the scene and was apprehended a short time later. Bishop has no valid driver's license.

Deonte Bishop was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, and operating a motor vehicle without a license involving death.

Gayle was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

The investigation is still on going.
