Danzel Rashard Hammonds (DOB 10/26/1990) has been arrested in connection with the hit and run death of pedestrian Hollis Heatherley.

Hammonds faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and tampering with physical evidence.

About 9:30 p.m. Oct. 3, 2021, Heatherley, who lives in Clearwater, was attempting to cross 1st Avenue North in the crosswalk at 16th Street North when he was hit and killed. The driver of a small, black sports car did not stop and sped away.

Several identifiable parts from the damaged vehicle were left at the scene.

Using those car parts to determine a make and model, investigators were able to track down a Scion FR-S registered to Hammonds.
