Today, June 3rd, at 10 a.m., the St. Petersburg Police will be distributing $40,000 in federal grant money to five local organizations that have programs focusing on youth. The presentation will occur in the Media Room at the St. Petersburg Police Headquarters, 1301 1st Avenue North, St. Petersburg. A list of programs is attached to this Media Alert.
The programs range from computer tutoring to yoga, but all will be targeting children and teenagers who can benefit from positive role models and interaction.
The funding comes from a grant received by the City of St. Petersburg Police Department from the Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) focusing on youth and community engagement. As part of this same grant, in April, the Police Department awarded $2000 individual continuing education stipends to 20 graduating students from five St. Petersburg area high schools.
