During a special traffic enforcement operation Wednesday, July 27, officers handed out more than 200 speeding tickets to drivers in the city's northern zone.
Members of the St. Petersburg Police Traffic Unit targeted the following four roads in District 2:
Officers issued the most number of tickets - 105 - to drivers traveling 15 to 19 miles per hour above the posted speed limit, followed by 96 tickets to motorists traveling 20 to 29 mph above the speed limit, and seven tickets were handed out to drivers spotted traveling 30 mph or more above the posted speed zone.
The operation is part of an ongoing effort to reduce deaths and injuries associated with traffic crashes in the city. It also serves as a reminder to drivers to slow down and pay attention.
The next operation is set for August 9 and will target various roadways west of U.S. 19 in the city.
