On Saturday, St. Petersburg residents are invited to take part in a workshop aimed to help improve trust between police and the community.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, residents will have a chance to offer input and engage in conversations about law enforcement and community responsibility and accountability at the St. Petersburg Community Safety and Engagement Workshop held at Mt. Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 955 20th Street South. Flyer attached.
The workshop is part of community engagement training launched by the St. Petersburg Police Department in partnership with Bethune-Cookman University Center for Law and Social Justice.The training began with sessions with police officers and now moves to the public sessions. Randy B. Nelson, Ph.D., director of the Center for Law and Social Justice at Bethune-Cookman University, is leading the sessions and facilitating speakers.
The ultimate goal is to establish and sustain a positive environment of trust between police officers and the community they serve. This program was funded in part, by the Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation.
