On December 7th, 2022 at around 9:24 pm, a black Suzuki Motorcycle being driven by Christopher Smith (6/6/78, of St. Petersburg), was traveling westbound on 1st Avenue North. A blue Subaru Legacy was traveling northbound on 42nd Street North. Both the Subaru Legacy and Smith entered the intersection at the same time where they ultimately collided.

Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.

The other driver, who was not injured, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing.

St. Petersburg Police Department officers are investigating a serious crash at the intersection of 1st Avenue North, and 42nd Street North.

Westbound lanes are shutdown on 1st Avenue North between 41st Street North and 43rd Street. We ask that drivers seek an alternate route and avoid the area.
