Vernon Gene Williams (DOB 07/18/1961) has been identified as the victim of a homicide on Melrose Avenue South early Sunday morning.

This is an ongoing investigation.

The victim is a 60 year old man. We have not reached next of kin so we will not release his name.

At 7:15 a.m. police responded to a man bleeding on Melrose Avenue S., west of Dr. MLK St. S.

When they arrived they found an adult man deceased. They are currently still processing the scene and the man has not been identified, nor has the nature of his trauma.

Melrose Ave. S remains closed between Dr. MLK St. S. and 11th St. S.
