Shooting Death Investigation

SPPD issued a warrant for Donovan Elmalik Gamel Shabazz (DOB 02/24/1973) earlier this week after learning, (through investigative means), that he was the shooter in the altercation near Central Ave and MLK Jr. Street in the early hours of September 28, 2021.

On September 30, 2021 Tampa Police officers arrested Shabazz without incident in the 1200 block of 113th Ave E, and booked him into the Hillsborough County Jail.

After speaking with several witnesses and Shabazz, SPPD charged him with one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. His booking photo is available through the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

No additional information is available at this time, but future updates will be provided via Media Alert.

The victim has been identified as Shane Tyler Boyd (DOB 03/08/1995).

The investigation is ongoing.

Just before 1:30 AM on September 28, 2021, officers responded to hearing shots fired in the area of Central Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street. Upon arrival, an adult male was found shot. He was transported to the hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.

There are no suspects in custody at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
