Shooting Investigation

Homicide Arrest

Robert Lee Cooley (DOB 9-20-2000) has been charged with the 2nd degree murder of Trevon Montrell Barton, age 21.

On Saturday, October 30th, investigators say Cooley and Barton both attended an outdoor boxing match in the parking lot of the Skyway Plaza, 1079 62nd Avenue South.

An altercation occurred and several shots were fired. Barton died and four other people suffered injuries.

Cooley was originally charged with carrying a concealed firearm and the discharge of a firearm in public. After further investigation, detectives had probable cause to add the charge of 2nd degree homicide.

Cooley was arrested in Tampa today and is in the Hillsborough County Jail.

The man who died last night is Trevon Montrell Barton (DOB 03-30-2000), his next of kin has been notified.

So far, one person has been arrested. Robert Lee Cooley (DOB 9-20-2000) was charged with Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Discharge of Firearm in Public. This is an ongoing investigation.

At 8:15 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at the Skyway Plaza, 1079 62 Avenue South.

There was a temporary outdoor boxing ring setup in the back parking lot. Approximately 200 people were attending a boxing event. (Photo of the boxing ring attached.)

An altercation between two groups occurred and several shots were fired.

One man died of his injuries at the hospital. Four other people, two men and two women also suffered gunshot injuries. (Total of 5 victims)

St. Petersburg Police detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in the area of 1079 62nd Ave. S.

At least one person was injured but it's still very early in the investigation.
