Missing Macaw Found Safe

Release posted on 11-18-21 at 5:46 p.m.

A macaw recently taken from a pet shop on 34th Street North has been found safe.

This evening, Nov. 18, 2021, the Red-Front Macaw is back with shop owner Steve Silk of Animal House Pet Center, 950 34th St. N.

The bird was dropped off today at Fur Ever Friends Veterinary Clinic at 2525 Pasadena Ave. S. in Pasadena. Alert vet employees immediately recognized it as the missing bird seen in news reports and called authorities.

SPPD detectives investigating the Nov. 3 bird theft incident at Animal House Pet Center reconnected the macaw and the shop owner.

On Nov. 3 a man was seen on surveillance video concealing the macaw and leaving the store without paying for it.

On Nov. 12, Andy Burnett (DOB 10/18/1984) was charged with grand theft in connection with the bird heist.

This remains an open and active investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call SPPD at 727-893-7780 or text SPPD+ your tip to TIP411.
