Update on 5-11-21 at 4:56 p.m.

The 2018 Ford Transit Van was traveling south on 34th Street North and was stopped in traffic. The 2019 Sanmen moped was also traveling south and for some reason, did not stop and crashed into the left rear of the van.

The driver of the moped, John Brakefield, DOB 11-21-61, of St. Petersburg, died of his injuries at the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing. All lanes of 34th Street North are now open to traffic.

St. Petersburg Police traffic investigators are on the scene of a fatal crash involving a small motorcycle and a cargo van on 34th Street North at 11th Avenue North.

It happened at about 1:30 p.m. Preliminary information is that the motorcycle struck the back of the van. The motorcycle driver died of his injuries at the hospital. No one else was injured.

34th Street North is closed closed to traffic in all directions between 9th Ave. and 13th Ave. N. for several hours for the investigation.

The other driver is cooperating with the investigation.
