Arrest in the Homicide of K'mia Simmons

St. Petersburg Police charged Tyron Jackasal (DOB 7-4-2000) with shooting and killing K'Mia Simmons while she was in a car with her children on March 30th, in the 1800 block of 22nd street south.

Jackasal was already in jail facing a robbery charge. He is now facing a 2nd degree murder charge as well.

Detectives thank everyone who sent tips and reward money to assist with this investigation.

The victim died of her injuries. Her name is K'Mia Simmons DOB 10-12-99.

She was a passenger riding in a dark Volvo with a man and her two young children, on 22nd St at 18th Ave. S. Someone fired shots at them from another car.

The children were not injured.

It is very early in the investigation and at this time there is no obvious connection between the earlier homicide and this one.

St. Petersburg Police is that the scene of a shooting at 2216 18th Ave. South.

An adult woman was shot and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
