After the widespread social media/media coverage of the missing prosthetic leg, someone called in and told us where to find it. Our officers just found it behind a local laundromat hidden among some discarded items and returned it to the victim's wife, moments ago.
Thanks to all of you for helping to get the word out and making sure the leg was returned to the victim's family.
Prosthetic Leg Returned to Family
Release posted on 06-08-21 at 11:00 a.m.
Last night, Monday, June 7, 2021, at about 10 p.m., Christopher Allen Harris (DOB 07-14-1971) was walking north along 49th Street and crossing 5th Ave. N. in the crosswalk, when he was struck by a westbound 2004 Infinity G35, driven by Joshua Albert Grimmer (DOB04/19/2000).
Harris suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Bayfront Health in critical condition. The impact caused Harris' prosthetic leg to dislodge and strike another vehicle traveling eastbound on 5th Ave N. Both drivers stopped and cooperated with the investigation.
Unfortunately, his prosthetic leg was stolen before officers arrived at the scene. The prosthetic leg is customized with Marvel artwork and the family of the victim would like to have it returned. We are asking anyone with information on the prosthesis to please return it to the police department. (photo of the prosthetic leg is attached to this media alert) The prosthesis is worth $15,000.
If members of the media would like to talk to a family member, please contact our PIO office.
Traffic Homicide detectives do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
