Chief Anthony Holloway hosted a press conference to highlight the recommendations for policing recently put forth by the Florida Police Chiefs Association (FPCA).

Chief Holloway served as Chair of the FPCA's Subcommittee on Accountability and Societal Change, created in response to the George Floyd murder. He was joined by other members of the subcommittee today including law enforcement and community leaders:

  1. Chief of Police Anthony Holloway, St. Petersburg
  2. Chief of Police Kenneth Albano, Temple Terrace
  3. Rev. Watson Haynes, III, President & CEO Pinellas Co. Urban League
  4. Chief of Police Dan Slaughter, Clearwater
  5. Kareem Spratling, Shareholder, Bryant Miller Olive P.A.
  6. Marilyn Turman, SPC Corporate Trainer, Event Coordinator, Community Activist
  7. Assistant Chief Ruben Delgado, Tampa, on behalf of Chief Brian Dugan

In September 2020, the Subcommittee, 11 law enforcement executives and 11 community leaders from across Florida, issued its first report on use of force and related issues. This report informed the development and passage of House Bill 7051, relating to law enforcement practices, that passed during the 2021 Florida Legislative Session.

The Subcommittee then focused on reviewing six main "pillars" from the 2015 Final Report of the President's Task Force on 21st Century Policing, prepared by the federal Office of Community Oriented Policing Services:

The FPCA's Board of Directors approved this second report at their recent summer meeting. The report builds on the 2015 federal report and House Bill 7051 by including numerous specific action items. The report also prioritizes these action items for law enforcement agencies and communities to provide a road map to implementing the recommendations and continue making progress together.
