Altercation Between Protestors

On Saturday, September 26, there was an altercation between different groups of protesters. Specifically, police are investigating a confrontation between two men carrying knives and a man carrying a gun. Detectives would like help to identify and speak to all three involved.

The link below shows two short videos of the incident as well as photos highlighting the weapons. The man in red plaid was carrying a folding knife and the man in jeans had a homemade sharp weapon commonly called a shank. The man in the black t-shirt and tan baseball cap was carrying a handgun.

Police investigators have received a number of videos and photos from citizens wanting to assist with the investigation. We ask anyone else with information to please contact police.

Several media outlets have inquired about an altercation that took place Saturday evening between opposing demonstrators in downtown St. Petersburg.

Police are aware of videos posted to various social media accounts showing a protestor pulling out a small knife and showing it to an opposing protestor and the opposition responding with showing a handgun. The groups separated and no shots were fired and no one was hurt. No property was damaged. Police are currently investigating the incident.

Police had multiple extra squads patrolling the downtown area down to the Pier last night to ensure the safety of residents and business patrons. At one point on the videos, police officers can be seen separating the arguing groups.
