Police Response Clarification

Posted on 9-25-20 at 1:56 p.m.

Chief Holloway would like to make the following clarification to his statements to the media yesterday. At the time, he was referring to written call notes to discuss the police response to an incident with diners on Beach Drive on Wednesday evening. The caller gave the Emergency Call Taker a common name for a male and that is the name recorded in the written call notes. For this reason, the Chief mistakenly said a female diner had not called police.

This morning, after reviewing audio of the call, it is apparent the female diner involved in the confrontation was the caller. The protesters had already left the restaurant area, so the Police Commander on Duty asked an officer to call the complainant back to see if she still needed to speak to an officer. The first time the officer called she got voice mail and left a message. The second time the officer called, the voice on the other end was garbled and disconnected on the officer. The Department tried again today and was able to contact her.

We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
