St. Petersburg Police will increase the number of body cameras it is currently testing to include a second company, Axxon.

Today, July 15, Axxon will train 12 officers on the use of its body camera model. It uses a similar technology that is set to record when the gun is removed from the holster. Officers will use the Axxon body cameras for a trial period.

Officers have already been testing four body cameras from Bodyworn. We will increase that number to eight officers using the cameras in order to get a broader sample.

After the testing period, Chief Holloway will make a recommendation to City Council on which body camera best suits the department needs.
