Fatal Crash on Roosevelt Blvd

Victim/Motorcycle Driver: Edwin V. Colon (DOB 08/06/1989)

SUV/Driver: Juan Valenci (DOB 07/24/1985)

Juan Valenci was driving on I-275 S, took Exit 30 and was trying to merge onto Roosevelt Blvd. N when he struck a 2012 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Edwin V. Colon of St. Petersburg.

Colon was traveling west on Roosevelt Blvd. N when Valenci crossed in front of his motorcycle. Colon was not able to avoid Valenci's Rav4 and crashed into the driver side of the SUV.

Colon was wearing a helmet, but was pronounced dead on scene by St Petersburg Fire Rescue.

In a separate crash, another vehicle hit Colon's motorcycle after the fatal crash.

There was a third (minor) collision where one vehicle rear-ended another as drivers tried to navigate around the crash.

The investigations into each of the crashes are ongoing.


Released on 12-01-20 at 8:26 a.m.

Around 6:11 this morning a motorcyclist traveling westbound on Roosevelt Blvd in St. Petersburg and a vehicle that was entering the road from the southbound I-275 exit, crashed. A second vehicle struck the motorcycle. The adult male motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The westbound lanes of Roosevelt Blvd and southbound exit from I-275 (Exit# 30) will remain closed as detectives investigate the crash.

An update will be provided once the victim's family has been notified.
