Fatal Pedestrian Crash

Around 6pm on Wednesday, April 1st, 2020, the victim, Barbara Ashworth (DOB 12/20/1940), was walking behind parked vehicles in the Parkwood Square Apartment Condos' (5870 38th Ave N) parking lot to take her trash to the dumpster.

As a 2008 green Mazda 3, driven by Cody Hensler (DOB 05/14/1996) reversed from a parking space there, the front driver's side corner of his car struck Ashworth, knocking her to the ground. Hensler was unaware he hit someone until after he put the car in drive and ran over Ashworth with his front tires.

Ashworth was transported to St. Pete General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Hensler stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
