Charges: Armed Robbery, Attempted Homicide

After more than 8 hours, the suspect finally surrendered to police. He spent most of that time hiding in a retention pond within a fenced-in lot.

At 10:15 p.m.,Tuesday, an armed man held up a Family Dollar Store, 1701 4th St.S., at closing time and shot an employee. ( he was treated and released from the hospital)

Over the last several hours we deployed multiple officers, police dogs, the PCSO helicopter, and the SWAT team. We believe the suspect is hiding in a field west of the store.

We ask nearby residents to stay away from the scene, and stay indoors if possible . ( People can leave for work, etc)

4th Street South remains closed from 15th-18th Av. S. Motorists should avoid area until this is resolved.
