The victim has been identified as Sheldon Wagner Jr. (DOB 05/24/1954) of 880 Oleander Way S #802, St. Petersburg.

Wagner was riding his bicycle northbound on the west side of the southbound lane of 64th St. S, when he made a sudden attempt to cross the street. As he tried to cross from the west side of 64th to the east side of it, he collided with a Lakeba Brown’s 2008 Nissan Ultima. She was not able to react fast enough to avoid Wagner.

Wagner was transported to Palms of Pasadena Hospital, and pronounced dead at 8:02am. His next of kin has been notified.

Brown fully cooperated with the investigation and will not face any charges in the crash.

Previously released

St. Petersburg Police are investigating a fatal crash on 64th Street South at Bougainvilla Avenue South, involving a Nissan Altima and a bicycle that occurred at 7:22 a.m.. The bicyclist, an adult man, died from his injuries.

64th Street South is closed at Bougainvilla in both directions for the investigation.
