A 2011 Scooter,ridden by a 30 y/o man was being towed behind the GMC with a towing strap. The scooter was nonoperational and had no lights on. The GMC made a left hand turn onto Melrose Avenue South safely, but the scooter was not able to clear the southbound lanes of travel in time and was struck by the Mazda.

The victim was thrown from the scooter. He was not wearing a helmet or any other protective equipment. He was transported from the scene to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was pronounced dead. His name will not be released until we can contact next of kin.

Citations are pending the completion of the investigation.

A vehicle hit a moped and the moped driver died of his injuries.

Traffic closed in all directions for the investigation.
