Update 12-13-19

Blake Faine (W/M, 09/25/1984) was arrested for DUI Manslaughter in this case as he was impaired at the time of the crash.

Update 12-11-19

At about 8:30 p.m., a black Nissan pick-up truck, was westbound on 54th Avenue South and struck a brown Nissan sedan as it was exiting a store at 3077 54th Avenue South to make an eastbound turn onto 54th Avenue South.

 The front of the pick-up truck struck the left side of the sedan.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital.
The driver of the sedan, Dorothy Wertz, DOB 11-3-48, died of her injuries.
The pick-up truck driver, Blake Faine, DOB 9-25-1984, suffered serious injuries.

The investigation is still ongoing

Officers are on the scene of a fatal crash involving two vehicles.

It occurred about 9:30p.m. just west of the intersection of 54 Ave S and 28 St S.

One driver, a 71 year old woman, is deceased. The other driver is at Bayfront Health with serious injuries.

No other passengers were involved.

The westbound lanes of 54 Avenue South are closed between 28th and 31st Streets for the investigation.
