St. Petersburg detectives arrested William John Shutt, DOB 2-24-1988, in the murder of Quentin Hicks, and attempted murder of another man on March 27, 2019.
Last Wednesday at 4:19 p.m., investigators believe Shutt shot at the driver, Quentin Hicks and a passenger in a BMW convertible near 17th Avenue NE and Bay Street NE. The BMW crashed into a tree a few blocks away on 1st St NE near 20th Ave NE. Hicks died of his wounds and his passenger was also injured. Shutt did not know the victims and investigators say a traffic dispute led to the shooting.
Detectives released surveillance video of the incident showing a blue SUV, as well as a composite image of the suspect.
A detective spotted the vehicle and we were able to identify Shutts through investigative techniques.
Police arrested Shutt at about 4 a.m. after he entered the home of his girlfriend without permission
Shutt is charged with murder in the 1st degree, attempted murder in the 1st degree, and residential burglary.
