Date / Time of Incident: November 24, 2018 at 6:26 p.m.

A 2018 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Matthew Meeks (05/31/1985) was driving westbound on 5th Avenue North. Darrell Williams (04/13/1958), a bicyclist, was crossing 5thAvenue North mid-block between 35th and 36th Street North.

Williams rode his bicycle into the path of Meek’s vehicle. The Jeep Wrangler swerved to avoid the collision, however, it struck Williams.

Williams was transported to Bayfront Health - St. Petersburg with life threatening injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in this crash.

St. Petersburg Police are investigating a serious injury crash involving a Jeep and a bicycle in the 3500 block of 5th Avenue North.

The bicyclist , an older man, was seriously injured. The driver of the Jeep is cooperating with the investigation.

5th Avenue North is closed in all directions from 35-37th St. North for the investigation.
